“Is not this the sort of fast that pleases me: to break unjust fetters, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break all yokes? “
Isaiah 58:6
Hey Buddy,
I hope you’ve been doing well. We have been doing GREAT!
Two weeks ago, my wife gave birth to our beautiful third daughter. Everything went wonderfully and they’re both doing well. Our older daughters have been huge helps and are very enthusiastic about having another sister in the mix.
If you read my last post (of course you did)
you already know about my battle with seasonal allergies and the connections that I’ve made to my diet. Over the past two weeks, I’ve eaten a lot of food that I wouldn’t typically eat at times that I wouldn’t typically eat it, between the food at the hospital (which actually tasted pretty good) and the food that other families have dropped off for us (which tasted amazing).
As a result, I am currently dealing with significantly increased allergic symptoms.
So what is the answer, buddy? How do I get my body back on track?
One way that has helped immensely in reducing the impact has been fasting.
I stuck to intermittent fasting pretty well which I know helped. I didn’t put on any weight and I haven’t had any GI issues for the most part.
I starting intermittent fasting several months ago. I used the Zero app to log my fasts and it helped a lot because it sort of gamified what I was doing through achievements and a calendar and a fast tracker. The free version is pretty solid and the premium version has ways for features for tracking what you’re eating and more in-depth info on what fasting zone you’re in.
There are recommended fasting windows on there, but you can customize it however you want. I started with a 12/12, then a 14/10 and now I consistently do a 16/8, meaning I don’t eat for 16 hours (usually 8pm-noon the following day) and then eat for 8 (noon-8pm).
Within the past couple of months, I worked in some 36 hour fasts, which I have really come to enjoy.
The benefits of fasting are really remarkable. There is another fasting app/service called Temper that I know very little about, but they have some solid info on their website that go into more detail about those benefits, so I’ll let you deep-dive on that at your leisure.
Here are a couple of helpful graphics from their website
The 36 hour mark has been a game-changer for me.
My thoughts are clearer. My body feels like it’s operating more effectively. After the first 36-hour fast, my metabolism kicked in better and my average weight is about 10 lbs less than it used to be.
You should look into more, buddy. It has done wonders for me, but it’s not for everyone.
But it could be an effective way to help you break the unjust fetters of ultra-processed foods, eliminate any unhealthy psychological attachments you may have to food, and
Preserve the Temple.
It was a pleasure as always to see you. I hope you have a great week.
Your Friend,
Dave
Sincere congratulations on the birth of your new daughter!
Yes, I have lost weight by fasting, it worked for me.
Congrats on the birth of your daughter!
Also, when you’re fasting, a little tip I learned is to add a bit of salt to your water for electrolytes! It makes a huge difference 💯
